Rockefeller Family Fund Pays for Anti-Energy Hit Job in LA Times

Descendants of oil magnate John D. Rockefeller took to CBS News on Friday to tell everyone to stop using fossil fuels.

Valerie Rockefeller Wayne, the daughter of former Sen. Jay Rockefeller, told correspondent Don Dahler:

“Because the source of the family wealth is fossil fuels, we feel an enormous moral responsibility for our children, for everyone — to move forward.”

Buried in the CBS News story, though, is a long-forgotten aspect of the Rockefeller foundation’s work:

They’re [moving forward] by looking back. The charities they run funded investigations that appeared in the Los Angeles Times and InsideClimate News.

Indeed, a review of the Los Angeles Timesinvestigation into Exxon Mobil reveals it was funded Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Rockefeller Family Fund.

In fairness, the LA Times disclosed the sources of their funding. Still, it is extraordinary to see anti-energy groups bankrolling a mainstream news media outlet’s investigation into an energy company.

The LA Times piece spurred a hashtag movement on the Environmentalist Left and has animated radical activist Bill McKibben.

Turns out it pays for the Environmentalist Left to invest in the news media.
