Environmentalist Acknowledges Blackouts Hit Australia After Shift To Renewables

In a recent op-ed, leading American environmentalist Bill McKibben seemed dismissive of blackouts and “near misses” in the Australian state of South Australia that have happened since the state’s shift to using more renewable energy sources.

South Australia experienced three major electricity blackouts in recent months after adding renewable energy sources to its energy grid and more reliable energy sources powered by fossil fuels were not online.

McKibben supports a radical plan to make America’s energy system solely dependent on unreliable renewable energy sources, a proposal that will cost trillions and take up land the size of North Dakota.
