Electric Vehicles Are Not Environmentally Friendly
A recent article from Salon urged Tesla owners to “hold on to your smugness” when it comes to electric vehicles (EV) being environmentally friendly. Electric vehicles in fact “use a lot of carbon” and Salon goes as far to suggest some people keep their gas powered vehicles:
Important factors in determining carbon emissions include the weight of the vehicle, driving habits, and the source of the electricity that charges your car. Likewise, it can be a much greener choice to keep the perfectly functional car you have, rather than go out and buy a new one.
Core News has extensively reported on EV’s environmental impact, citing The Wall Street Journal report that electric vehicles impact air quality hundreds of miles away. Even Wired Magazine weighed in, reporting that “green cars” like EV’s are not environmentally friendly as consumers have been lead to believe:
But how green is a Tesla, really? Devonshire Research Group, an investment firm that specializes in valuing tech companies, dug into the data and concluded that Tesla’s environmental benefits may be more hyped than warranted.
As consumers become better informed, they will have to weigh not only the human cost of rare earths needed to manufacture EV’s, but the reality that EV’s are no “environmentally woke” statement.
