Environmentalist Left Shifting Attention To States
After almost all their candidates were defeated at the federal level in 2016, the Environmentalist Left seems to think that their losing message might have some appeal on a state level moving forward.
Politico Pro reports that these green activists plan to “go on the attack” and will try to spread their message of shutting down energy production and killing economic growth on a state-by-state basis:
“[E]nvironmental groups want to go on the attack at the state level, where their efforts to combat climate change and restrict the expansion of oil and gas infrastructure may find more willing partners.”
Jane Kleeb, a leader in the fight against the Keystone XL pipeline stated her intention to fight at the local and state level in order to make energy projects “financially not attainable” by jamming up these job-creating projects through unnecessary regulations or blocking permits.
On top of Kleeb’s efforts, Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, plans to continue the group’s efforts despite the 2016 setback, saying, “We’re determined not to solely be in a defensive posture for the next several years.”
While the Environmentalist Left tries to find another route to implement out-of-touch policies, it seems painfully clear that their message about eliminating jobs and shutting down affordable energy projects is not one that has resonated with voters.
